I can’t count the amount of times I’ve had a client say to me “I can’t find what I’m looking for anywhere?!” It seems almost impossible to believe this, with the world of online shopping at our fingertips, but the truth is that 90% of that world caters to a very small percentage of taste and style.
As a nursery décor designer, I can say that most of the time we have to work with the current trends. At the moment it’s succulents, cacti, unicorns, swans, teepees and flamingos. Do I mind? Not for a second! I absolutely love delving into the current trends of colour and design, and putting our own unique twist onto pieces that will fit into the current market. It is probably the favourite part of my job: I dream, eat and sleep design!
That said, the thing that really keeps us creative, stimulated and excited are custom designs! We are super proud of the unique service we offer that enables each mom to be to be her own interior designer and work with us to create the unique pieces you can’t find anywhere else.
Today I thought I would just share a few lines on how that process works, as well as tips to have the best results for your custom nursery.
What can we make for you?
Almost anything you see on our website can be custom made to suit your nursery. We specialise in mostly wooden items, with also a gorgeous range of felt mobiles and unique wall art. Bookends, curtain holdbacks, drawer knobs, dustbins, caddies, growth charts, letters… we can do all of these and more in your own unique design.
What does it cost?
For most designs, the price you see on our online store is the price you will pay for your custom piece. For example, if we sell a pair of bookends online for R450, then we will most likely charge you the same amount for your custom pair.
On a few rare occasions we have to charge more. This is only when the design is very detailed, requires a custom material or anything in this line. We will always quote you in advance though, so there will be no hidden costs.
How do I go about placing a custom décor order?
The first thing you should do is email us with some pictures of your design and a basic idea of the style/colours you are looking for. You could send an image you found on Pinterest, or a snapshot of your linen so that we can match the fabric.
Once we receive your photos we will let you know if your ideas are feasible and if we can help you out. You can then send us a list of the items you are interested in and we will send you a free, no obligations quote.
After looking through the quote and choosing the items you’d like to to ahead with, we can start talking exact particulars of the design. An example of such an email would be:

Do you provide digital samples of the artwork before starting?
We do not usually provide digital artwork, relying instead on the very detailed descriptions and photos. On some occasions however we can put a quick digital mock up together for you, like we did in this instance with this beautiful circle name plaque.
How long will it take to make my products?
Like most our orders the lead time depends on how large your order is, but you are typically looking at 1-3 weeks. We seldom need more than 4 weeks to complete an order. If you need the order for a specific date, please do ask! We always try to meet dates whenever possible.
Tips for getting the best results with your custom décor order:
- Provide clear photos/images in the highest resolution possible.
- Clearly describe the colours of your nursery. Photos can be very deceptive with colours!
- Choose simple designs – less is more.
And finally – trust the professionals!
We have been doing custom décor for over 12 years and we know what we are doing. By allowing the artist and designer to use their instincts your products will come out better. We always take very careful note of each and every custom request, but sometimes we have to use our instinct to make tiny changes. The clients that allow us this freedom are always happier with their orders. For any larger changes or issues we will always refer back to you.
